SMILE COMMUNICATIONS TANZANIA LTD. APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND COUNTRY MANAGER

Smile Communications Tanzania Ltd. (Smile Tanzania), part of Smile Telecoms Holdings Ltd. (Smile Group), a Pan-African telecommunications group with operations in Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, announced after its last board meeting, the appointment of two new Board Directors and the permanent position of its Country Manager.

Smile Tanzania, at a Board meeting, resolved the following Appointments:

  • Mr. Osman Sultan has been appointed as Board Member. Mr. Sultan, the founding CEO of EITC (du) in the UAE, was at its helm from 2006 until 2019. Before that, he was the founding CEO of Mobinil in Egypt (now Orange Egypt) from 1998 until the end of 2005. Mr. Sultan sits on several ICT Companies and Academic Boards. He is also Vice-Chairman of the Smile Group.
  • Mr. Albert Momdjian has been appointed as Board Member. Mr. Momdjian is a former corporate and investment banker with 27 years of corporate Investment banking and restructuring experience primarily in Media and Telecoms across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, having been involved in over USD 100 bn worth of M&A, capital markets, and restructuring transactions. He is also a Board Member of the Smile Group and Chairman of the Smile Group Audit Committee.
  • Ms. Zuweina Farah has been permanently appointed as the Country Manager of Smile Tanzania. She was acting in the same capacity for twelve (12) months until 1 November 2021, when the Smile Tanzania Board of Directors unanimously resolved her appointment to a permanent basis. Zuweina has eleven (11) years of experience in the private sector, previously serving as the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania, promoting a two-way flow of trade and facilitating investments opportunities for US Companies in Tanzania. Zuweina is a founder and co-creator of a tech startup and leads programs that mentor and coach SMEs. Her focus is on leading and consulting small and large organisations. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Business Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead and an Executive Education in Leadership from Oxford University, Saïd Business School.

Commenting on the new appointments, Mr. Ahmad Farroukh, Group CEO/Chairman of Smile Tanzania, commented, "I am looking forward to working with our newly appointed Board Members and Country manager to prepare for our future growth in Tanzania.
